Meg is an innovative entrepreneur, systems thinker and nonprofit social enterprise leader, founding the Refugee Collective along with 2 Liberian refugees and another American woman in 2009. Under her collaborative leadership, the Refugee Collective has grown to provide livelihood opportunities for over 100 refugees through skills based education and social entrepreneurship, investing over $2.9 million dollars back into the refugee community. The Refugee Collective Farm and Studio provide fair wage jobs for refugees in areas where they bring great interest and expertise along with the opportunity to learn and advance in their careers. The Refugee Collective’s blended financial model of philanthropy and earned revenue creatively engages donors, chefs, businesses, designers and the larger Austin community with a shared impact of supporting our newest neighbors.
Meg has a background in conservation biology (fun fact- she was the Texas Bat Biologist for Texas Parks and Wildlife in the early 2000s) and nonprofit management. She is passionate about refugees and immigrants, ecology and conservation, local food and regenerative agriculture, sustainable/fair trade textile production, and making the world a more equitable and prosperous place for all.
Meg and her family have been an active parishoners at St David’s Episcopal Church for 10 years where she serves on the Vestry, Advocacy, Environmental and Grants Committees and engages in Spiritual Direction. She is a graduate of the Center for Action and Contemplation Living School focused on Christian contemplative wisdom and ways of living in the world.
